Weekend getaway in Prague

17.10.2022

The capital city of Czech Republic. City rich of history and architectural heritage. Prague was voted as the most beautiful city in the world in 2021. Lying in the heart of Europe, Prague has excellent location for weekend city break.

Flying from Switzerland?
Direct flights are flying from Basel or Geneva with Easyjet and Swissair from Zurich. The flight takes only one hour and from the airport to center you can, either travel by public transport (bus 119 has a final stop at metro A, station Nádraží Veleslavín), simply take a taxi (I recommend an Uber it's the cheapest) or order the shared shuttle transfer.

Where to stay in Prague?
For a weekend I recommend to book a hotel in the center as it comes very handy. My favorite hotel is  PYTLOUN BOUTIQUE directly on the Wenceslaw Square (modern rooms with delicious breakfast and rooftop terrace).

What to do in Prague?
The list could get long, but below are the must activities for couple, those are visiting Prague for the first time.

Romantic activities in Prague for couples
Prague has the special romantic atmosphere and is a perfect place for couples. The walk from Old Town Square through Charles Bridge to Prague castle, is a MUST! Tip: On the way, stop in Kampa Island and explore the park, which is situated under the Charles Bridge or refresh yourself in IF cafe in Werichova vila (delicious desserts & coffee!). Together with a walk I also recommend dinner cruise on open top glass boat. I did it once and it’s an unforgettable memory (also recommend when traveling in group). During the three hour journey you can enjoy the buffet dinner, which includes the wide selection of Czech and international dishes and admire the beautiful views the best of Prague. Another romantic place for couples in Prague is Petřín, which is known as an ageless symbol of love. It’s also famous spot during the spring, 1st May is a day of love in Czech and it’s a tradition, that lovers kiss under the blooming cherry trees to ensure the year of good health. When in Petřín, don’t forget to visit Petřínskou rozhlednu (Petrin Lookout Tower), which was built in 1891 as a copy to Eiffel Tower. To the peak of the tower leads 299 steps (or elevator) and in the height of 63,5 meters experience one of the most beautiful view to Prague.

What to do in the evening?

In the evening you can enjoy the fancy drink in The Alchymist Bar, or Terrace U Prince, with a view to Old Town or walk through Dlouhá Street, where you find many pubs, bars, clubs. In Dlouhá Street is also located my favorite pub Lokál, where they serve famous Czech beer Pilsner and delicious Czech food for good price with typical Czech pub atmosphere (btw Wenceslaw square’s restaurants are totally overpriced). If you prefer organized dinner without any hassle, but with entertainment, then Medieval dinner with unlimited drinks is for you (which is very popular, so book in advance).

Shopping in Prague?
Czech Republic is part of EU, which means for the Swiss Residence TAX free, which makes shopping in Prague very attractive. There are couple of places where to go shopping in the center: Wenceslaw square,  Palladium, OC Novy Smichov or the high brands are located in famous street Pařížská (by the Old Town). Outside of the city center is located Westfield Chodov (one of the largest shopping mall - metro C station Chodov) or Fashion Arena Prague Outlet (metro A, station Depo Hostivař).
